My Testimony

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

Hello! My name is Cynthia Thomas. I am in my late thirties, married with kids, and living in North Carolina, USA.

Like many of you, I did not come from a Christian home.  If my family claimed anything, it was Catholicism. But we were not actual believers.  We would go years without attending church and when we did go, it was just going through the motions.  I remember being 8 or 9 years old, sitting in Catholic mass and completely rejecting God. And so I was an atheist for over a decade – and I can only deeply thank Jesus Christ for keeping me alive during all that time of rejection and rebellion.

There were many people over the years who planted “seeds” of Jesus into my heart: Christian neighbors taking my brothers and I to AWANA; Christian neighbors giving me Josh McDowell’s More Than a Carpenter; fellow NCSU students getting on me when I didn’t come to church; neighbors and friends taking me to Christian church services; Campus Crusade for Christ workers inviting Sam and I into their homes for dinner and question sessions; Sam and his parents giving me books, praying for me and discussing spiritual matters with me. And there were a few peers in my young adult years that did not witness to me directly but would unashamedly declare their love for Jesus. These people really got me thinking. God worked on me for so long through so many people!

12 What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?” Matthew 18:12

It was in college that I started asking a lot of questions and God sent me a young man who would later become my husband; and his family that started answering my questions from a biblical perspective and shedding my deep rooted belief in evolution. I read a book about Creationism and it made me realize all the many MANY flaws in evolutionary theory and how many assumptions I was having to make and the EXTREMELY unlikely mathematical odds of creation happening by pure chance and accident.  There HAD to be a designer behind all the complexities – in the universe, our planet and humans!! But I was not a Christian yet.

I remember in the summer of 2004 or 2005 (I was already married by then!) that I sat down to read the first Left Behind book (a fictional series on the Book of Revelation) – and on the first sentence of the first page, I was so convicted of God, Jesus Christ and my need to repent, that I stopped reading and started crying and praying to God.  I didn’t know it then – but I became a saved believer at that moment.

“For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10: 9-10

“For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

In the spring of 2007, Sam and I plugged into a local Christian church in Arizona and God began to transform our entire life. For the better.

If you don’t know Jesus yet, it’s not too late! God loves YOU and wants to be in your life! All it takes is a belief in God, His son, Jesus Christ, and a confession of your sins. Each one of us is a sinner and needs to acknowledge it and ask for forgiveness. Jesus died for your sins and mine. No sin is too big to be forgiven! The decision to accept or reject Jesus is THE biggest decision a person will ever make. Talk to Jesus today!

We love you and if you have any questions, please let us know!

Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
    whose sin the Lord does not count against them
    and in whose spirit is no deceit.

When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
    as in the heat of summer.
[b]

Then I acknowledged my sin to you
    and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.

Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
    while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
    will not reach them.
You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
    which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
    or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
    but the Lord’s unfailing love
    surrounds the one who trusts in him.

11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
   sing, all you who are upright in heart
!” Psalm 32
