Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Teach children not to look towards us – but to Jesus. We will not always be around. But He will! When our girls are scared or out of their comfort zone – we encourage them to pray and ask for God’s strength. Only God can provide that peace, comfort, and deep well of strength and courage.
Many nights our youngest would go to bed and tell us she is scared. She is the only one in her room! But every night we point her to Jesus. Do what mommy does when she is scared – pray to God. Ask Him to give you comfort and courage. And He will! And know that you aren’t the only one in the room! Guess who is always with you – Jesus! You can’t see Him, but He is here! So you are never alone, precious. Just pray to Him when you need comfort.
I took our middle child to get 2 teeth removed. She was 7 at the time. She was really nervous and started to panic once the dentist closed in with his giant steel needle. So I immediately started praying out loud (and encouraged my daughter to pray with me in her head). It was nothing special but just asking God to give her strength and courage and for the dental procedure to go well. In JESUS’ name we pray, Amen. And instantly she relaxed and the procedure continued with no issues. Afterwards the Dentist tells me that he needs a copy of our prayer because it worked so effectively! Our actions and prayer were simple; but by inviting the Holy Spirit to take over the situation, we allowed a Higher Power to do what we as parents cannot do.
As parents, there is actually little we can do or have control over. But God can do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. Why not let God be God! Allow Jesus to take control. Invite him into your everyday!
Psalm 46:1
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
